THE ZODIAC OF ADAR

Dear Family,

I hope everyone is well and enjoying Adar.

Mazal Tov to Daniella Davidoff on her birthday this coming week. Wishing you a year of much success in your Jewish studies, and blessing also in all your physical needs Dani.

Mazal Tov to David and Mel Gickman (ne Milner) - Janine's (ne Stein) daughter, on the birth of a boy in London. We attended their beautiful bris, and the boy's name is Golan Avremi (English name Spencer). Wishing you all much success in London with many simchas together!

I heard another talk about the Mazal (Zodiac) of Adar this week from Sefer Yetzira, as given over by Rabbi Aaron Raskin.

This does give us a better understanding of Adar and Purim as follows:

Name

Adar - connotes JOY (adir)

Adar - connotes strength (again same root)

Adar - aleph dar - Hashem dwells (more intensely in this month)

Position in year

Last month of year -12th (and 13th)

It therefore unites the whole year together

Zodiac

Pisces - Dag - Fish

The word dag connotes multiplying greatly - vayidgu.

Fish do not need shechita. With an animal, the shechita raises them to a higher level (the word shechita means to draw higher). But fish are already at a high level, and don't need this procedure.

The eyes of fish are continually open, and no 'evil eye' can affect them.

They also reflect self nullification. Ayin which means eye, also means nothingness and beyond.

Tribe.

Naftali (and the 13th month refers to Levi)

Both these relate to TORAH STUDY

Attribute.

JOY AND LAUGHTER - related to letter kuf which means a monkey also.

Letter.

Kuf.

Pasuk.

Lashoreikah bni atono - In the territory of Yehudah, WINE WILL FLOW LIKE A FOUNTAIN.....that even a single vine branch will load up a donkey.

Achashverosh made a feast where he was using the vessels taken as booty from the Temple, and he invited also the Jews to participate and get drunk there WITH WINE.

They accepted, and this caused the decree where Haman was going to destroy the entire Jewish People

To annul this decree, Mordechai got together 22000 children to LEARN TORAH - (Naftoli and Levi)

And PRAY and fast - Yehuda has the root of hod - praising G-d.

And we drink lots of WINE with JOY and LAUGHTER to help the correction, and celebrate our teshuvah and salvation.

And to continue with the musical instruments played in the Temple, this week we feature THE FLUTE.
