KNOWLEDGE ROM THE HEIGHTS AND THE DEPTHS

I saw a very interesting comment on a pasuk from this week's Sedra, Noach. (from the Gutnick Chumash, based on talks from the Rebbe)

The pasuk was 'In the 600th year of Noach's life..all the wellsprings of the great depths burst forth, and the apertures of the skies opened up' Verse 7:11 - FLOOD

In the Zohar, the following prediction is recorded:

'in the 600th year of the 6th millennium, (this works out to be 5500 or 1740 and onwards), there will be an opening of THE SUPERNAL GATES OF WISDOM, AND THE LOWER WELLSPRINGS OF WISDOM, preparing the world for the 7th millennium (ie Shabbos, - the final Redemption)

This is just like a person prepares himself on Friday for Shabbos, when the sun heads downwards.' - FLOOD OF KNOWLEDGE

The Zohar links this prediction to the above pasuk in Noach.

By the year 1840, 2 major schools of thought had caused revolutions in their spheres of influence.

In the spiritual area ('the apertures of the skies'), the Chassidic movement had introduced mysticism and Kabalah.

In the secular area ('the wellsprings of the great depths'), the industrial revolution had reached its peak.

Now, we can understand how the Coming of Mashiach is connected with 'the earth will be filled with the Knowledge of G-d' with the foretaste of Kabalah etc, but how is this linked to the lower waters of technological development?

One of the prophesies to do with the time of the redemption is that 'all FLESH will see together that Hashem is speaking,' (Yeshayah), ie it will be discernable to the physical senses.

The phenomenal scientific development over the last 150 years, has brought to our senses, phenomena which previously would have been deemed impossible or supernatural ie man is able to see and hear from one end of the world to the other instantaneously (through TV, radio, phones, and mobile phones)

And therefore the concept of there being 'An Eye that sees, and an Ear that hears, and all your deeds are Recorded', is no longer imaginary!!

This is why the Zohar linked also the scientific revolution to the Coming of Mashiach.
