Zohar
Hashem told Noach that he would never again destroy the world with a flood.
And then he told him that the RAINBOW is a sign of an everlasting covenant.
These two are not the same (and are represented by rainbows of different colour)
At present rainbows appear faint, and are a reminder that the Flood will not be repeated.
At the time of Redemption a different kind of rainbow will appear, which will be bright and vivid.
It will adorn itself with it's colours like a bride adorned for her wedding.
It will beam down brightly onto the earth and signal Moshiach's imminent arrival.
G-d will then remember the covenant that languishes in exile, and restore it to it's glory with the Redemption
Baal HaTurim
I understood the above better when I saw the Baal Haturim on the verse (9:9) - I, (Hashem), for my part, am going to set up My Covenant with you and with your descendants after you.
He points out something so interesting, looking at the 4 Hebrew words in this verse - mekim es brisi itchem ie If you look at the last letter of each of those words, it spells mesim - the dead.
Ie It is referring to the period of techias hamesim - Revival of the Dead!
(I think this is because the verse is saying that the covenant is with you and your descendants ie with each of us individually)
May it be soon in our time!
Gut Shabbos to all!
