'SIMPLE' JEWS
Dear Family,
I hope everyone is well. BH Renee (Rivkah bas Sarah Zlata) has had some improvement in her treatment but we still need to continue with our Tehillim and prayers for her.
Mazal Tov to Alisa and Juan on their upcoming Anniversary next week. Wishing you continued happiness and achievement together.
We wish Zalmy much success in his move to LA. Meshaneh makom, meshaneh mazal letovah! We wish you success in your studies and much growth in all areas, Zalmy, and with much joy!
We send our love to Miriam and Mommy in Germany, who is visiting there.
I saw 2 items this week which were interconnected and interesting.
Chumash (from the Amshinover Rebbe)
The Parshah this week Vaeschanan starts off "Vaeschanan el Hashem baes hahi.." - I beseeched Hashem for grace at that time
The Amshinover Rebbe explained that Mosheh beseeched Hashem that in later generations ("at that time")when Jews will find themselves in the depths of exile, unable even to muster up the proper intentions before praying, and only capable of uttering the words, their prayers should be acceptable before G-d.
Likkutei Diburim
And to show the greatness and importance of our 'simple' uttering of the words of prayer and Tehillim, I saw a nice story from the Frierdike Rebbe in Likutei Dibburim.
Reb Dovber was an unpretentious member of our People, an artless villager.
He was quite far from expert in the obscure small print that scholars relish, but he would read Tikun Chatzos and the whole Book of Tehillim every day. He would read verses of Tehillim as he took his dairy products to sell to the townsmen.
The Rebbe Rashab (the Frierdike Rebbe's father) when he heard about Reb Dovber, said "The truth is, that by virtue of such unsophisticated Tehillim reciters, by virtue of such folk who don't even know the meaning of the words they are saying, the world stands.
Their reading of Tehillim brings intense joy to the Infinite Being of G-d.
So much so that at minchah time on Shabbos, the most sublime hour of Divine gratification, we say "Who is like Your people, like Israel, one nation on earth?"
That is to say: G-d's people Israel, draw His true Unity into this world."
Gut Shabbos to all on Shabbat Nachamu
