Dear Family,

Because there is some artwork in this week's email, I have put it in pdf format.

So please see attached above and open.

Enjoy, and wishing all a happy TuBeShvat, and a Gut Shabbos!!

The letter itself, sent as a PDF (“Tu BeShvat 2.pdf”, 2 pages with the family’s artwork)

This week’s letter was sent as an attached PDF; its text is transcribed here exactly as written (it says “Tu BeAv” where Tu BiShvat is meant), followed by the two PDF pages.

B’’H

Dear Family,

I hope that everyone is well.

Tonight is Tu BeAv, (15th of Av), the New Year of trees.

It is customary to eat a lot of fruit, recognising the extreme abundance and generosity of Hashem.

And of course to say the appropriate blessings!

Some have the custom to eat 15 different fruits.

And so with this theme in mind I gathered some interesting facts about trees and fruits:

  • There are 7500 different types of apples
  • The largest edible fruit in the world is the jackfruit. They weigh on average 22-55 lbs, but the larger ones can weigh upto 130 lbs
  • The Black Sapote fruit is also known as the chocolate pudding fruit found in Columbia. It is extremely sweet. It can be spread on bread or eaten as a chocolate pudding.
  • While forests all over the world are rapidly being cut down, Israel is the only country in the world where its trees are increasing in number. More than 200 m trees have been planted by JNF since 1950
  • The largest variety of fruit trees in an orchard in the world, is found in Israel at Kibbutz Ein Shemer. There are more than 300 different types of fruit trees growing together, exotic ones alongside Israeli, subtropical, spice plants, medicinal etc from all over the world. It also contains the ‘miracle berry’, which after being eaten, makes everything else eaten in the next 4 hours, taste sweet!
  • The 7 fruits from Torah relating to the Land of Israel are wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates, in a Land “Flowing with Milk and Honey”

And some works of art from our talented Family done this week (I am sure there was much more which I did not hear about)

Happy Tu Bishvat and Gut Shabbos to all!
