This Shabbos is Shabbos Mevorchim Adar, and we also read, besides the Sedra, the portion about the Half Shekel.
It is also said that when we enter Adar, we should increase in JOY
Adar, the month which contains Purim, is therefore a month of GIVING and JOY
GIVING
- The half shekel (a donation given equally by every Jew to the Temple)
- Giving charity to the poor on Purim (Matanos laevyonim)
- Giving gifts to friends and Family on Purim (Shlach Manos)
In the words of the Rebbe: (1991)
The month of Adar stresses CHARITY.
Every individual must therefore add in charity.
This applies in the physical sense, through giving money, food and drink.
It also applies in the spiritual sense, through helping another person, giving advice, learning with them, etc
JOY
We try to increase in our joy throughout the month of Adar and especially on Purim.
Gut Shabbos to all.
