TEHILLIM

Dear Family,

I hope everyone is well, and had a good Rosh Hashanah.

Gmar chasimah tovah to all.

The saying of extra Tehilim (Psalms) is very much emphasized throughout Elul, and especially on Rosh Hashanah, the 10 days, now, before Yom Kippur, and on Yom Kippur itself

Anyone can do this even without any understanding.

The Rebbe explains that even when Tehilim are said without much attention and at a quick pace, this nevertheless HAS A TREMENDOUS EFFECT.

It is said (in the introduction to saying of Tehilim), that when we say Tehilim it is considered as if it is coming direct out of the mouth of Dovid Hamelech himself (who composed the psalms) to Hashem.

There was the story of the wife of the Tzemach Tzedek (Rebetzen Chayah Mushkah), who would recite a lot of Tehilim, but with many mistakes.

When one of her sons pointed this out to her, she asked her husband whether she should perhaps stop saying Tehillim.

The Rebbe advised her to continue.

And then he called his son and admonished him, saying that it was her Tehilim that had protected him in the Rabbinic Conference in Petersburg in 1843.

On another occasion, when a libel was plotted against him, the Tzemach Tzedek asked his wife to recite Tehilim for him - Sichos Kodesh Part 2 1979

On a personal note, besides all the damage that the pandemic has done, it has also stirred up hidden powers and created so many acts of kindness.

I am part of an organization for Jewish dentists called Alpha Omega. It is made up of mostly secular dentists.

Yet the organization set up a Whats App group to say DAILY TEHILLIM for colleagues and their families who were ill, many of them severely, from the virus.

2 groups of 30 dentists volunteered, because the Book of Tehillim is divided up into 30 days of about 5 psalms per day.

So each week we are allocated our day, which we repeat for each day of the week

This means that every day the whole Book of Psalms is shared by the 30 dentists. And there are 2 groups.

It has been running now for 22 weeks.

We have had so many grateful thanks from families, and seen many videos of people returning home from hospital BH.

Our simple prayers can be very powerful. Besides helping others, we become connected.

Wishing all a Gut Shabbos and a Holy Yom Kippur, where we are all sealed for a Good and Sweet Year
