NEW RESOLUTIONS
Dear Family,
I hope everyone is well and has had a meaningful Yom Kippur
Mazal Tov to Talya who has a birthday on Shabbos. Wishing you a wonderful year Talya. I hope all is going well - we haven't seen you all in a while!
I have been learning Amud Yomi (0ne page of Gemorra per day), with a group and we are now learning Brochos.
I saw something interesting on p7a which has some connection to Yom Kippur and Teshuvah.
Rabbi Yochanan said in the name of Rabbi Yosei : A single regret in one's heart is preferable to many lashes.
Rabbi Steinsaltz notes:
"With this expression the Sages display a profound understanding of the essence of education.
One does not learn a lesson by having it beaten into him.
Rather one learns when one is approached in a sensitive manner.
Genuine awe of G-d does not come through fear, but through profound love.
This method of teaching, which is widely accepted in the contemporary world, has its roots in the prophetic statements of the Sages (Ein Ayah)."
And on Yom Kippur we make new resolutions.
Gut Shabbos and Shanah Tovah to all
