In an extract of a Sicha from The Rebbe, in this week's Parsha, Vayechi, we see lessons that we can learn from FISH.
When Yaakov blessed Menasheh and Ephraim he said '..and may they multiply abundantly (veyidgu) among mankind on earth.'
And Rashi explains that the term veyidgu means 'May they be like fish (dagim) which are fruitful and multiply,....'
Fish are completely submerged and concealed by their native environment, water, and are constantly dependant on it for their survival.
Fish therefore express the notion of SELFLESSNESS (bitul) more than other creatures.
This selflessness is also the key to their great FERTILITY.
Selflessness ensures that our ego does not become an obstacle between ourselves and G-d. And thereby opens us up to receiving His limitless blessings.
The lesson that we therefore take from Yaakov's blessing, is to emulate the selflessness exhibited by fish, in our Divine mission on earth, and to receive Hashems infinite blessings.
Gut Shabbos and love to all.
