DYNAMICS OF FREEDOM
Dear Family,
I hope everyone is well.
Mazal Tov to Baty on her birthday which is today. It is a big one being one of the decades BH! Wishing you an amazing year with much peace and happiness, Baty, and much achievement in both material and spiritual matters! Also much nachas from all your children BEH.
This week's Sedra Bo, and many other Sedras in the Book of Shemos are discussing our exodus from Mitzrayim (Egypt)
I therefore found it interesting how both todays Hayom Yom and Tanya, were discussing how the freedom from Egypt relates to our own personal selves.
Hayom Yom 4th Shvat
The root of the Hebrew word Mitzrayim expresses constriction and limitation.
In relation to ourselves, this is referring to our 'animal soul' restricting and concealing our 'G-dly soul'.
This is so severe that the G-dly soul is compressed to the degree that it becomes diminished and obscured.
Our 'Exodus from Egypt' is the removal of these constrictions and bounds.
Ie the intellect in the brain illuminates the heart, bringing about fine character traits, which are then translated into actual practice.
In todays Tanya, Likutei Amarim Chap 19, and for many chapters before this, the Alte Rebbe has been explaining how Hashem enclothes himself in our intellect (Chochmah), and how this can effect the rest of our being, all the way down to action. I think, that this very much explains the above concept in much detail.
Gut Shabbos to all
