REFLECTION
Dear Family,
I hope that everyone is well.
Wishing a refuah shleimah for Yechezkiel ben Ester.
Mazal Tov to Chaya Mussia Davidoff whose birthday is tonight. Apologies for missing your birthday party Mussia, but I wish you a very happy year with much achievement, and that you should give much nachas to your parents BEH!
A big thank you to Reuven and Chana Lieba, and Chanan and Naomi for hosting Rahel and I for a beautiful Shabbos get-together in Cape Cod last Shabbos!
We are now well into the month of Elul, and Rosh Hashanah is getting closer.
One of the elements of Elul is to spend time in SELF- REFLECTION AND STOCK-TAKING of the previous year.
To look back and see what we achieved and where we went wrong, and to then make appropriate GOOD RESOLUTIONS on how to improve in the New Year.
There are 12 days from Chai Elul (18th 0f Elul), and there is a tradition to use these 12 days to look back, one day at a time, to each of the 12 months of the previous year.
Other Customs for this month are:
- Listening to the shofar being sounded daily to arouse feelings of teshuvah
- Wishing all our friends and family etc to have a Good and Sweet New year when we speak or write to them.
- Sending out Rosh Hashanah cards
- Enhancing our inter-personal relationships
- Asking forgiveness from those we might have wronged or hurt
- Saying 3 extra chapters of Tehillim each day in addition to the daily quota
- Having our Mezuzot and Tefillin checked
Our involvement in these Traditional actions will keep us sufficiently busy doing only good, and in the hope that Hashem will judge us favourably, and seal us for a Good and Sweet Year.
Gut Shabbos, and wishing everyone a Kesivah Vechasimah Tovah for a Good and Sweet New Year
