DISCOVERING FAMILY
Dear Family,
I hope that everyone is well and have had a Good Rosh Hashanah
This Shabbos is the yohrtzeit of Uncle Maika ah. We wish long life to all his Family on our group -Selma, Joy and Avri and Families. We have such fond memories of Uncle Maika ah and life in Vereeniging. His neshamah should have an aliyah.
Tonight is the yohrtzeit of Renee ah, and we wish long life to all her Family – Jody, Shelley, Gavin, Roy, Sid, Brian and Adam and Families. Renee has such a special yohrtzeit being the day on which the Rebbe’s mother also passed away. Renee was special and is remembered fondly by all of us, having attended many of our children’s simchos. Her neshamah should have an Aliyah.
Mazal Tov to Talya (Ne Davidoff) on her upcoming birthday tomorrow. Thinking of you warmly Talya, and wishing you a wonderful year.
One of the highlights of this week was my discovery of a link of our Family to Lubavitch Rebeeim, linked to the Schneerson Family.
And this is thanks to Avrum Pollack who is married to Tracy, who is the daughter of Shirley Isaacson from Uncle Morris ah.
So I would like to share how this story unfolded, and also to give over a life lesson from Rebetzen Chana, the Rebbe’s mother.
First of all a big welcome to Avrum, on our Group. So happy to have you with us Avrum BH!
*Discovery*
On the 24th of Elul this year (about 2 weeks ago) Mrs Hadassah Carlebach passed away in New York.
A few days later at the yohrtzeit of my mother on the 27th of Elul, Rabbi Citron had a lechaim with me, and there was a conversation about the passing of his grandmother Mrs Carlbach a few days earlier. I vaguely remembered that there was some connection between Rabbi Citron and Avrum, and Rabbi Citron reminded me of this, also vaguely. So I decided to investigate further, and got in touch with Avrum through Tracy.
And then it came to light that Mrs Carlbach was a daughter of the famous Lubavitch Chosid, Rabbi Shneur Zalman Schneerson, and that his wife, Soroh Levine, was a sister of Avrums forebears. (without going into the details. I am sure Avrum could elaborate if needed)
Avrum also sent me a link telling us more about the life of Mrs Carlbach and her father Rabbi Schneerson, and some of their amazing achievements, which I am attaching below.
The article and interviews also give some insight into life before, during and after the world war, touching onto the lives of the Rebbe and Frierdike Rebbe, and their close Family.
I feel so proud to have discovered this connection.
Thank you Avrum and Tracy!

*The Rebbe and Rebbetzin Chana*
As mentioned, Rebetzen Chana's yohrtzeit is tonight.
The following demonstrates the Rebbe’s devotion to his mother.
After a difficult life together with her husband who was exiled to Siberia because of his work for Judaism, and then his untimely passing, Rebbetzin Chana spent the last 17 years of her life near to her beloved son in New York.
Despite his crowded schedule, the Rebbe took time* every day * to visit his mother.
The daily visits took place between 6 and 7 and would last 5-15 mins
On Friday afternoon he would visit for a short while before candle lighting, and return for a longer visit after Kabbolas Shabbos.
At times the Rebbe would come for an additional visit on Shabbos day or Motzei Shabbos
Gut Shabbos and wishing everyone an inspiring Yom Kippur and a Gmar Chasima Tovah for a Shanah Tovah
