We wish long life to Mommy on the yohrtzeit of her father, Pepe, this coming week. His neshamah should have an Aliyah and he will continually be remembered fondly through all the grandchildren named after him.
On the same day as Pepe, it is also the yohrtzeit of a friend of ours, Shimon Pilsner. His neshamah should have an Aliyah.
The Zodiac sign of Adar is Pisces the FISH, and I saw an article by Rabbi L Ceitlin, on some lessons that we can derive from FISH.
Everyone moves at their own pace
Sailfish can move at nearly 70 mph.
The small seahorse can only cover about 5 ft in the same time. But it is still moving forward even although its movement is barely noticed.
Shlomo Hamelech advised "Educate a child according to his way" - Progress for one individual can look very different to that of another. Proverbs 22:6
We don't need to always be a sailfish.
We just need to make sure that we are swimming in the right direction.
Keep going forward
Most fish cannot swim backwards (eels are a rare exception)
Memories of the past can try and stall us, but our sights should be set firmly on the present, with the goal of shaping the future.
Israel Salanter, a 19th century Lithuanian Rabbi said "As long as we are alive, we can still accomplish."
Rise to the challenge
Rusty angelfish are born female.
In time one will become anatomically a male and will assume that role.
This teaches us that most of our lives we may rely on leadership figures to guide us, but we should be ready to rise to the challenge, and take up leadership, when the situation arises. Pirkei Avot 2:5
We have the potential.
Wishing everyone a Gut Shabbos and Gut Chodesh, and to keep adding JOY in the months of Adar.
